Course permission and academic integrity
Students must confirm with the instructor what AI use, if any, is permitted before using it. Instructors control course-specific rules.默认规则Default rule USC’s provision of ChatGPT Edu does not change or override those rules.课程规则优先Instructor override
AI-authored work represented as the student’s own is plagiarism whether it is copied, nearly copied, or paraphrased.违规定性Integrity framing USC also directs users to be transparent about where and how AI contributed to written work. Attribution does not cure use that the instructor prohibited.披露要求Disclosure摘录Excerpt
Verification and responsibility
Users must review output for accuracy, completeness, relevance, and appropriateness. USC highlights fabricated or misattributed quotations and citations as particular risks and expects human verification.核实责任Verification duty
Privacy and intellectual property
Restricted confidential or confidential data—including personally identifiable information, health information, and protected education records—must not be shared with an AI tool without appropriate consultation.数据与隐私Data & privacy Sharing includes prompts, uploads, and training data. USC’s institutional ChatGPT Edu environment protects USC data from use in OpenAI model training, but that protection does not displace university data classifications or course rules.机构工具Institutional tools
AI detection
USC states that detectors cannot definitively identify AI writing and may produce false positives. Students should be informed before detection software is used, identifying information should be removed, and detector evidence alone is insufficient to determine responsibility.检测器证据Detector evidence Human review, contextual evidence, and preferably a conversation with the student are necessary.

High-school adaptation takeaways
- A school-provided AI account is not blanket permission for assignments.
- Define uncredited AI-generated and AI-paraphrased work as misrepresentation.
- Require factual and citation checks plus an AI-use disclosure.
- Ban unauthorized entry of student records, health data, private communications, and class materials.
- Never discipline from a detector percentage alone; review drafts, sources, process, and explanation.
